1966, Charles left his career at Sears to pursue becoming a 'Paymaster Man.' He went to Atlanta for training, and there became an Authorized Paymaster Dealer. He started selling Paymasters throughout Virginia and quickly became one of the top paymaster sellers. One year, Charles sold 400 paymasters and was gifted a silver bracelet with the numbers' 400' on it. He wore the bracelet for the rest of his life—a true Paymaster Man.
Doug Roughton is married to Charles' youngest daughter, Sara. Doug received a scholarship in college supported by a local copier company. After graduation, he pursued working with the company. During his tenure, he built a new division of the company selling office supplies.
Years later, Paymaster Office Products was founded by the partnership of Charles and Doug. Charles's reputation and wide range of paymaster clients, coupled with Doug's knowledge and expertise in the office product industry, created a multi-faceted company that was relevant to the niche paymaster trade and the growing office product industry.
